Today's Everyday Fashion: The Best Time of Year For Deals

Right after Christmas and early January is when sales and prices are literally the best you'll see all year! Right now is such a great time to use any surplus clothing budget you've been saving up, and that's exactly what I did! I ordered all the items below, as well as the navy dress I'm wearing. Everything has not arrived yet, so fingers crossed most or all works out. I'm certainly over the moon with the navy dress. I added the ribbon brooch and the belt, and the resulting look is something I would wear for both work and casual occasions. Most of the other items I've had in online shopping carts for months, and prices are so good right now - I couldn't resist at least giving them a try! Have you been shopping any great sales?

Today's Everyday Fashion: Last Outfit of 2017

Inspiration: Charlotte Russe

The week between Christmas and New Year's is awesome for so many reasons. It's a time for rest and relaxation after the hustle and bustle of Christmas. A time to reflect on the year past, and gear up for the year ahead. It's also THE best time of the year to shop!! This year I did all my shopping online, and got insane deals on some items I've had my eye on. (If you have any wish lists or retail shopping carts saved, it could be worth it to go back and check to see if prices have dropped!) Another reason this week rocks is that it's time to pick an outfit for one my favorite holidays: New Year's Eve! This sequin top is definitely a contender - I love the bell sleeve shape and the sequins are so pretty in person. And I will definitely be wearing these earrings. They are super lightweight and so perfect for the ball drop!

Today's Everyday Fashion: The Best Find of My Life

It's the kind of deal that will go down in budget-shopping history: the most perfect blush pink feather dress secondhand for only $19, in my size, just in time to wear to the ballet. I mean... COME ON!! I feel like I won the dress lottery with this little number. It was my own Carrie Bradshaw moment as we shot these photos before our date night. We had dinner and then watched Orlando Ballet's The Nutcracker (a Christmas gift from my family), and the whole night was just so magical. I will forever cherish the memory, and wearing such a fun dress and getting all dolled up makes the memory even sweeter. Five-year-old me who loved ballet and all things pink was on cloud nine!!

Today's Everyday Fashion: All I Want For Christmas Is To Go To Cancun

Outfits One and Three

Today's outfit was put together with one very specific occasion in mind: showing your Christmas spirit at the office! Mixing bright red and green is always festive for the holidays but when it's done with a pencil skirt and a cap sleeve blouse, it's the perfect way to have a little fun in a conservative setting. This is also my 3rd look with this jeweled belt, so I wanted to share a collage of holiday outfits with it so far!

Speaking of the holidays, the only thing on my wish list from Santa this year is... Cancun!! We applied for a sweet gig with Cancun.com (traveling Mexico for 6 months + $10k/month, yes please!!), and during this first round we are collecting votes through Dec. 24th. (One click, no registration - vote HERE!) When we got married, Joshua joined me on the blog full time and what he enjoys most is travel content (his IG account is sick!). He did such an amazing job creating our video submission and I love that this job opportunity combines BOTH of our passions (and professional experiences!) so well. We are so excited and appreciate all of your votes so far. Please keep voting here, everyday through Dec. 24th! Thank you!!

Today's Everyday Fashion: I Only Wear The Best

Seven years ago (when I first started blogging), my personal style motto could've been summarized as "I only wear the cheapest." I didn't care about being best dressed, I just wanted to save the most money. But here's what I've learned over the years:

You feel better when you wear what actually makes you happy.  You are worth the investment!!

Spending more to get what you actually want doesn't just give you the warm fuzzies though, it's also practical. It saves you money in the long run, because you won't find yourself re-buying the same type of items over and over again! I'm not saying that "best" necessarily equals the most expensive option, or the one other people will like. Best equals what makes your fashion heart most happy. It's the thing you'll actually wear again and again, and the thing that is instantly your favorite in your whole closet. Today's star bodysuit is a great example of that for me. I knew I wanted a star print but passed on the bodysuit at first, on account of it being "too expensive." And then I realized, why not get the thing I really want? It may not be my initial instinct to spend $70 on one item, but technically it's still in my budget, and if I'm truly following my new motto of "I only wear the best" then I should go with my top pick!

Ps. I'm wearing my usual UK brand size 6 here, but realized during the photo shoot that it's way too big in the back (the zipper was sticking out), so the size 4 is on it's way! Fingers crossed it works.

Update: The size 4 fits perfect - woo hoo! And even better news. The price dropped 50% so I got it for only $35!!

Today's Everyday Fashion: Wearing This Blush Bell Sleeve Top Again

I went full princess the first time I wore this blush bell sleeve top (hello, sparkle bow pumps and frilly statement necklace, I see you...). That's the vibe I got from the top itself thanks to the polished fabric, pink color, and giant bell sleeves. And while it's easy to pigeonhole clothes into one category, with a little exploring you can often find new ways to style things beyond your first instincts. So I ditched the "princess" and went for something different: a boho/'70s vibe with a suede skirt, tassel earrings and embroidered booties. Which one do you like better? How else would you style this top?

Today's Everyday Fashion: Candy Cane Ugly Christmas Sweater DIY

I won "best outfit" at our friends' ugly sweater party for the past 2 years (here and here), which meant I really needed to get creative this year to defend my title!! And I gotta say... whoa, that escalated quickly. What started as a little candy cane inspiration (the socks launched the whole look!) turned into one crazy over-the-top outfit. Not only was it SO fun to wear, it also won me the prize for the third year in a row!! Woo-hoo. (You could summarize my current level of holiday excitement as: CHRISTMAS IS COMING!! SANTA, I KNOW HIM!! So the outfit is a good match lol...) I shared a step-by-step for this candy cane sweater DIY below.

There are lots of ways to attach candy canes to a sweater, but this method prevents you from ruining your sweater with holes or glue. This method only works with off-shoulder sweaters.

1. Place one drop of super glue on the flat side of the clip. (image below)
2. Using another clip, hold it in place while it dries on the candy cane. (image below)
3. Repeat process for as many candy canes as needed, making sure they face the same direction.
4. Measure out the tinsel and cut to size.
5. Holding the tinsel at the edge of your sweater, use the clips to attach the candy canes to the sweater - this will also hold the tinsel in place.
6. Repeat until you reach your shoulders.
7. Use remaining naked clips to attach tinsel to the back of the sweater.

Today's Everyday Fashion: The Same Look I Repeat Every Christmas

If today's outfit looks familiar that might be because... I've already posted it before! It's pretty much an exact repeat of an outfit wore in 2013 (see comparison below). Same skirt and earrings, with minor changes like different black shoes and a different black top. I loved this outfit in 2013, and I love this outfit just as much now. The older I get, I've realized that putting time and effort into making outfits I really like (versus phoning it in - because that's definitely my default if I don't actively push myself to make an effort) gets results that I will gladly wear year after year, and ultimately saves time and money in the long run. I am totes okay with this look being my same "go-to Christmas look" year after year!

Today's Everyday Fashion: When You're Tired of Jeans But It's Cold

It's so easy to fall into a rut this time of year! I find myself defaulting to jeans, or only wearing black and gray. I loved this colorful maxi skirt so much this summer, and thought, "why not bust it out again now?!" The colorful print has a sunny effect on my day, as does the cheerful yellow coat, and the chunky sweater is super warm. (I discovered that wearing your jacket "draped" can actually be really practical... like when your sweater is so chunky that it won't fit inside the sleeves, ha!) It's certainly a fun look to break me out of denim repeats!

Today's Everyday Fashion: Two Winter Coats at Santa's Farm

Only a couple weeks until Christmas, and we still didn't have a tree! So we headed up to Santa's Farm in Eustis, FL to pick one out. While were there, we snapped several outfit photos that I'll be sharing over the next few weeks. With temps in the 40-50 degree range, it made for the perfect wintery backdrop (okay... wintery for Florida anyway!!). Today's looks are the same outfit twice - only the coat was switched, from ivory to red. It's crazy how different they look with that one little change, and honestly I'm sharing both because I couldn't decide which one I liked better! The outfit recipe here that I'm taking away: pairing a stripe sweater and a plaid scarf is easy print mixing, and it could work with any color combo. Which coat do you like best with this look?

6 Gorgeous Holiday Dresses With Ever Pretty

Today’s post is brought to you by Ever Pretty. All clothing selections, opinions, and editorial decisions are solely my own.

I am so totally smitten with these gorgeous dresses from Ever Pretty!! I may need to commit to a few more holiday events just so I have enough occasions to wear all of them!!

Ever Pretty is truly one of the best resources I’ve ever seen on the 'net to find the “look for less” - for the holidays, bridesmaids, for a wedding guest, you name it. I’ve reviewed Ever Pretty several times over the years and the dresses just keep getting better (quality, cut, fabric) with every order!

(Note on sizing: Ever Pretty is similar to European sizing. Their smallest size 04 is comparable to a size 0, size 06 equals 2 and so on. I'm wearing the size 06 in today's post, and be sure to check out the size chart that accompanies each dress for more details.)

Today's Everyday Fashion: The Best Trick For Updating An Old Sweater

Inspiration: American Eagle

It's my absolute favorite winter accessory of all time: the faux fur collar!! Over the years you've seen me wear it with lots of things including a denim jacket and a wool trench coat (pic below). In today's look, I safety pinned it to a gray fringe sweater for a little extra pizzazz and warmth. In fact, instead of buying sweaters and coats with faux fur collars, I recommend buying them without, and then attaching a collar as needed/wanted for more versatility. Another trick: you can safety pin the ends of the collar together and wear it draped around your shoulders with a cocktail dress. Really, the possibilities are endless!

Today's Everyday Fashion: I Finally Figured Out This Band Jacket

This jacket has been mocking me for months. It sat in my closet, daring me to wear it, and frustrating me to no end as I kept trying it on with different things but nothing ever looked right! I even ordered several tops and dresses specifically for it, but to no avail. I finally marched into my closet this week, determined not to leave until I figured it out and the right solution was there all along: a top I've had for 8 years, my favorite skinny jeans, and two-toned mules. The even better part? We've got cold weather forecasted for the weekend so the timing is perfect. I'm glad I stuck with it and kept trying - this jacket looks super luxe (it was a great deal) and I really like the band jacket trend. Is this is a trend you would wear?

Today's Everyday Fashion: Happy Holidays!

I've had holiday outfits on the brain so much lately, and thought why not sprinkle them throughout the month of December, rather than wait and share them all at the end of the month?! This festive look is at the very top of my list to wear for Christmas. I also wore this plaid skirt last year, but love the addition of a new jeweled belt (an item you're going to see a lot of in upcoming holiday outfit!s), as well as the red bow top (insert heart eye emojis) even more. I'm throughly enjoying this holiday season so far and hope it's been a magical time of year for you, too!

Today's Everyday Fashion: One Day, Two Outfits

A quick post to share two outfits I wore last week. Various leopard prints with this statement necklace have been on repeat in my closet lately. On this particular day I paired it with a leather pleated skirt and ankle boots for a meeting, and then later changed to jeans and brown accessories for a casual food truck date with the hubs (below). My favorite thing about leopard is that you can wear it with both black and brown. However, seeing it in photos I think the black looks better in this case!

Today's Everyday Fashion: Wear What You Want

On one side, picture a woman in a bathrobe and slippers... on the other, a woman in a cocktail dress and heels. And the tagline would read: "Wear what you want!!" I've been blogging long enough (7 years) to know that many outfits I post won't be well-received. But even when I'm feel like it won't be a crowd-pleaser, I post it anyway! I truly believe in wearing what brings you joy and not letting anyone's opinion affect your decisions, and so I'm practicing what I preach! (For situations like a job interview, it matters in a different way, but from an art standpoint you should just do you.) I can't say for sure that you won't like today's outfit (it is VERY '70s and reminds me of Scooby Doo a little bit...so I get it if you don't). But I found this top 60% off during a Black Friday sale, and the super fun sleeves and rainbow flowers put a huge smile on my face, so it's a keeper. I paired it here with a suede jacket for our current "fall" weather, but I can't wait to wear it with white jeans or shorts this spring/summer, too!

Four Fall Outfits Featuring Yummie Leggings

Today’s post is brought to you by Yummie and ShopStyle. All clothing selections, opinions, and editorial decisions are solely my own.

I’ve never had so much fun with leggings in my entire life. I mean… we’re talking velvet inserts that are dressy enough to rock on NYE! Cut out crisscrosses that look sick with sneakers for errands. A super comfy base to wear under your fall ponchos. And fun patterns paired with plain bodysuits for pre and post working out.

It’s not just the style details though, though. Yummie is a shapewear company first and foremost, so all of their products make you look ah-mazing. Not that you need it girl, because Yummie is all about loving your body just the way it is. They want you to embrace your curves, and definitely not constrict yourself to some torturous or uncomfortable shapewear – because these leggings are SO comfy!

I put together ideas for styling four different types of leggings and two bodysuits in today’s post but Yummie makes it all: traditional shapewear, tanks, bras, slips, and even jeans.

Head over to try it for yourself and enter our giveaway for a $300 online gift card to Yummie.com!

Today's Everyday Fashion: Making the Case for Rare Occasions

We've all done it: talked ourselves out of loving something on account of "I have nowhere to wear it." Maybe it's a cocktail dress for a special event, the cutest little outfit for brunch, or a faux fur vest when you live in sunny Florida (bingo). I'm here to say: it's time to stop overlooking the rare occasions and start giving more weight to one, simple question: will I reach for this over absolutely anything else in my closet? If the answer is yes and it's in your budget... you have a winner. Because what's the alternative? You wind up with brunch plans, a gala, or a super cold day and you have... absolutely nothing to wear. Not the end of the world (obvi), however, if the scenario isn't completely far-fetched then why not go for it? It actually does get chilly enough to wear this outfit here in FL, especially with peep toe booties. And you may even find yourself making those brunch plans or saying yes to the gala, because of the cute outfit waiting in the closet. Clothes have a funny way of making life more fun like that!
